LEAPING BUNNY – In 1996, “cruelty-free” shopping became popular, but it was also confusing, sometimes misleading and ultimately frustrating. Companies began designing their own ‘bunny’ logos, but abiding by their own definition, ranging from “cruelty free” to “animal friendly”, without any participation of animal protection groups.
Because of that eight national animal protection groups united to set up the Coalition for Consumer Information on Costemics (CCIC). The Coalition promotes a single comprehensive standard and the Leaping Bunny Logo recognized worldwide.
Today, they work jointly with companies to make the process of such products’ buying easy and trustworthy. This logo found on cosmetic and household products means that they are made and sold without testing on animals. At the same time, the logo is the first in the world animal protection mark in cosmetics industry. Manufacturers using the logo state that they are ready to comply with all directives without exception. Besides, certified brands are controlled regularly and by independent inspectors.
